Job Title: Deputy General Manager – Environment

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced DGM – Environment to lead environmental compliance, management, and sustainability initiatives for our coal mining operations. The role involves conducting environmental field assessments, analyzing soil, water, and air samples, and ensuring adherence to all environmental and forest-related regulations. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in minimizing environmental impact, managing regulatory liaison, and implementing effective environmental management programs.


Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance & Monitoring

  • Conduct field examinations, analyze soil, water, and air samples, and prepare detailed environmental reports.
  • Maintain and update management information systems (MIS) tracking hazardous sites, chemical inventories, and complaints.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities, clients, and government departments to obtain necessary environmental and forest clearances.

Pollution Control & Hazard Mitigation

  • Identify potential environmental hazards and pollution sources, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement spill prevention and hazardous waste management programs.
  • Monitor adherence to environmental safeguards during project execution.

Training & Awareness

  • Design and conduct employee training programs focused on environmental compliance and best practices.
  • Foster collaboration with environmental engineers, consultants, and other experts to promote sustainable operations.

Stakeholder & Project Coordination

  • Liaise with clients, laboratories, and environmental departments to ensure effective project management.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams for smooth execution of environmental initiatives.
  • Work with impaneled experts and government bodies to ensure timely compliance with all applicable environmental and forest laws.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Graduate / Postgraduate in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Industry: Environment Management in Coal Mining or Power Sector.
  • Experience: 15–20 years in environmental management, compliance, or sustainability roles.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, policies, and compliance frameworks.
  • In-depth knowledge of pollution control, waste management, and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in technical documentation, regulatory liaison, and environmental audits.
  • Familiarity with Indian regulatory bodies, technical manuals, and environmental committees.
